Information Regarding Medicaid and Prescription Paper |
|
The compliance date for state Medicaid scripts to be written on prescription paper has been extended until April 1, 2008. President Bush signed legislation passed by Congress (HR 3667) in September to extend the date for the mandatory use of tamper-resistant prescription paper. The law attempts to make fraudulent prescriptions more difficult to obtain by enforcing the use of tamper-resistant scripts.
While this grace period for compliance gives doctors, pharmacists, dentists, healthcare providers and consumers more time to prepare for the new guidelines, we expect the demand for prescription paper to continue to be high over these next few months. These circumstances present an excellent opportunity to provide customers with value-added security products to prepare them for the April 1 deadline.
In addition, several states already require prescriptions to be written on special security paper. Doctors, pharmacists and healthcare organizations in these states currently have the need for the added value of security paper. They include: |
